A Tribute to the Kids

My new website went “live” just a few days ago.
The question has been, “what will be my first blog?”
After only minutes of considering writing about the importance of proper footwork, or telling the story of the 6 year old who reported back to her family the importance of a good basketball shooting form “goose snack” (that’s gooseneck), or perhaps writing about the influences of great players and coaches of our time, specifically those who have influenced my dedication to teaching.

Then is quickly occurred to me…. I will write about and pay homage to the young people of the game, my students. They may appear one at a time or in a group of 60 or 70 children, they may be new to the game or in their 20th season. It may be their very first round of formal instruction or a refresher course for their upcoming season. Our time may be in preparation to make the team, prepare for a big tournament, or redeem a gift of teaching time from a generous and most thoughtful grandparent.

No matter what the reason, purpose, goal, objective, or common interest…IT’S SO AWESOME TO SEE THE CONTINUED EFFORT TO LISTEN, THE WILLINGNESS TO APPLY, THE PATIENCE TO REPEAT, AND THE COMMITMENT TO WORK HARD.

To say the least, I am proud and humbled to do what I do. It’s an honor. Here’s to the 3000 plus kids I have enjoyed teaching and to whom I wish the very best. If it’s Confidence you desire, Fundamentals you need, or to be put on course with a Champion’s mentality, I hope you’ll find me again.
I don’t remember a day I have gotten up and gone to work – with you, WE “go to play.”

Thank you for that and see you soon.
